Academic Session 2018-19 of SCD Government College Began on with Lot of Enthusiasm

Ludhiana – The new academic session (2018 – 19) of SCD Government College, Ludhiana began on 21st July, 2018 with a lot of enthusiasm. The function was presided over by the youth icon of Punjab, S Ravneet Singh Bittu, Hon’ble, Member of Parliament elected from Ludhiana. MP Bittu is credited with having started the campaign ‘Drug Free Punjab’ nearly 10 years back when he sat on hunger- strike for several days before the Deputy Commissioner’s office. His presence today was a big motivation to the students for they are the future of the country and their well- being is a matter of serious consideration, particularly today when the state of Punjab is suffering from severe drug abuse by yougsters. Upon his arrival in the campus, S Bittu was given a thunderous applause.

The principal Dr. Dharam Singh Sandhu welcomed the chief guest. S Bittu administered the oath pledging to stay away from drugs and to make Punjab Drug Free. In his address to the students he advised the students to stay humble and focus on studying hard. He also insisted on leading a disciplined life under the guidance of their teachers so that we don’t regret later because life rarely gives a second chance.

Thereafter, Prof.(Dr.) Ashwani Bhalla, informed the assembled students that they represent the cream of the student community of the city and the region. At the same time he also made them aware that this college has a rich tradition of its alumni who have scripted success stories in their chosen fields. This automatically places a huge mantle of responsibility upon their shoulders for not just measuring up to the standards set by their predecessors but also to surpass them, thereby infusing them with the spirit of being focused in their work. Dr. Harbans Singh informed them about the rules and regulations they have to follow in routine. Strict measures exist regarding discipline, regularity and attendance which from this session is going to be marked on-line. Examination schedule and internal assessment was also intimated to the students.

He also advised them towards making optimum use of increased freedom that they would be able to enjoy now that they are no longer in school. Prof. Kamal Kishore informed the students about the various cultural activities in which they can partcipate to enhance their personality and hone their latent talents. Sporting activities were also emphasised upon by the Head of Physical Education who informed about them about the countless national and international players of the college, both present and past, who have made successful careers in numerous sports, thereby motivating the students, both girls and boys to be physically fit and to opt for sports as a career option which will also ensure them various government jobs. He also infirmed them about sundry other rules they have to follow like, for example, the imposition of a heavy fine if they trespass certain areas, like the hockey ground. Ragging is a punishable crime and this information is displayed at different places all over the campus. The students were encouraged to inculcate a reading habit and to extensively use the library. Prof Sumeet Brar informed about the NSS, which infuses the spirit of selfless service to the community in the students. Prof Nitin Sood gave information regarding NCC Air & Army wings.
