Traffic comes to a grinding halt as 10 coaches of Jhelum Express derail near Phillaur, 3 hurt
The Northern Railway cancelled more than 80 mail, express, passenger and superfast trains, including elite Shatabdi Express trains, diverted the routes of more than two dozen trains while short-terminated/originated several other trains from stations other than their originating or terminating points due to derailment of Pune-bound 11078 Jammu Tawi-Pune Jhelum Express between Phillaur and Ladhowal railway station at around 3.10 am on Tuesday.
Ludhiana railway station remained completely cut off from the Amritsar and Jammu sections as incoming rail traffic had come to a complete halt for more than 15 hours.
In the early hours, utterly confused and dismayed passengers remained at the receiving end as those manning the railway enquiry here were also not in a position to provide accurate information about cancellation, late running and diversion of trains.
Barring 12037/38 New Delhi-Ludhiana-New Delhi Shatabdi Express train, which ran as per schedule, almost all other trains bound for Delhi and beyond either remained cancelled or were short terminated.
To add to the woes of travelling public, many other trains from Jammu and Amritsar were diverted and made their run without touching Ludhiana.
