LUDHIANA: The third day of Shaheed-e-Azam Punjab Games saw players from Ludhiana clinching two gold medals, one silver, and five bronze.
As expected, Commonwealth Games 2014 silver medallist Vikas Thakur clinched the gold medal in weightlifting. However, in an upset, Malaika Goel, who won the silver medal at the same games as Thakur, managed only a bronze in the 10m air-pistol event. She was defeated by Mukstar girls Sweta Devi and Mandeep Sandhu. While Goel managed 373 points, Devi and Sandhu scored 375 and 374, respectively.
In cycling, five medals were bagged by cyclists from the team in individual and team events.
For his gold medal, Thakur lifted a weight of 295 kg (130 kg in snatch and 165 in clean and jerk) in the under-85kg category.
In the 4km team pursuit cycling event, Ludhiana men’s team was second position, while the city’s women’s team was third.
