Voting to be held by US Congress on Green Card Bill which may benefit H-1B visa holders

Voting will be done by the US House of Representatives on legislation to lift the country-cap on issuing green cards. It is backed by almost 310 lawmakers from both the Republican and the Democratic Party.

If this country cap on issuing the Green Card is lifted then it would be extremely beneficial to the IT professional. These professionals who go in large numbers to the USA on H-1B visas for work are made to wait for more than 10 years to get a Green Card. The Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act will have to be passed through the House of Representatives.

Congressional Research Service (CRS) says that this bill will be increasing the per-country cap on family-based immigrant visas from seven per cent of the total number of such visas available that year to 15 per cent.

“Of the unreserved visas, not more than 85 per cent shall be allotted to immigrants from any single country,” CRS said.
